Report highlights
During this year, the 8 winners of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge did show progress in their innovative services to their citizens, with cases such Bogota (Colombia), Butuan (Philippines) and Rourkela (India) demonstrating how municipalities are at the forefront of Agenda 2030 implementation. In 2024, the project also supported the local government constituency during the High-Level Political Forum and the Summit for the Future, while preparing data and stories to support the need to include local government finance in the upcoming Financing for Development process.
Two working groups were also operational: the first one on the role of procurement for sustainability in cities and how cities are creating livelihoods. The working groups, composed by experts from different countries and backgrounds, met online and produced a series of recommendations, available to the public. The experts, together with Mayors, representatives from local governments and networks, met in Barcelona during the SDG Local Solutions in November 2024 counting with 140 participants in person and an additional 85 connecting remotely.
The learning hub organized 13 webinars attended by more than 500 participants and with more than 1.500 visualizations on our Youtube channel.
The year 2024 also saw the consolidation of the advocacy and communication tools of the project, with the website www.sdglocalaction.org fully operational and widely used by cities and local governments worldwide. It contains now 65 stories, 100 news, eight (8) project pages to introduce the local solutions supported by SDG Local Action. It also has various learning resources available like guidelines, templates, articles, and webinar videos. The website was visited by 29 thousand unique users who interacted 71 thousand times (“event count”).
The SDG Local Action team is composed by 40 colleagues from 16 different nationalities working across 14 countries, bringing a wide multicultural and multi-sectorial approach to our work.
