Agroecological food production is emerging as a transformative solution in urban and periurban contexts. By applying ecological principles to urban food systems, local governments are enhancing food security, increasing biodiversity, and fostering community engagement in sustainable livelihoods.

From balcony gardens and backyard plots to communal and commercial farms, cities are turning underutilized land into productive, biodiverse spaces. These initiatives not only reduce food expenditure and generate income but also contribute to climate mitigation, environmental restoration, and inclusive economic development.

This webinar will showcase how local governments in cities such as Rosario, Argentina, and Belo Horizonte, Brazil, are implementing agroecological strategies in urban and peri-urban areas. Speakers will share insights on how these efforts are promoting resilient food systems, preserving green areas, and supporting communities through training, tools, and policy innovation.
