BICICLANDO, PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY, SUSTAINABLE WASTE COLLECTION AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Biciclando is a gender mainstreaming program, with a focus on recycling and sustainable mobility. This initiative comprises three key components: a Circular Economy Center (CEC), recyclables collection, and cycling infrastructure.

The primary objective of Biciclando is to promote female employment through sustainable mobility, inclusive climate action, and the creation of safer public spaces.
Biciclando stands out as one of the 15 winning projects in the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge.

Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez championed this recognized proposal, with implementation led by the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning and Public Space (IMPLAN) in Hermosillo.

MAYOR Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez.

“We are already witnessing the pilot project, and we are thrilled because, besides being a global example, this program also illustrates how public policies shouldn’t be reinvented every three years. Instead, successful programs should persist beyond administrations”

HOW DOES IT WORK?

INNOVATION IN ACTION

The pilot project, set in the “Modelo” neighborhood, aims to strengthen partnerships with the community to boost recycling and encourage citizens to separate their waste properly for correct disposal.
