MANY NEPALESE WOMEN FACE INSECURITY

in public spaces, hindering their study, work, and rights. Although policies address participation, climate, and gender issues, these issues are poorly integrated into local public spaces. Municipal infrastructure development is ad hoc and short-term, with limited capacity in municipal engineering units. To address this challenge, the Birendranagar Municipality has decided to create public spaces dedicated to women and has launched a local call open to the community, academic institutions, information agencies, and policymakers for urban regeneration projects (peacemaking, tactical urbanism, and sustainable engineering), making the Bangeshimal Bal Uddyan space available. This initiative is part of the Cities 4 Women project, which aims to create inclusive, climate-sustainable urban planning with a focus on public spaces and on improving the safety of women and marginalized groups. The project seeks to enhance local governments’ ability to meet their communities’ needs, thereby improving living conditions.
