Mercosur Cities Network campaign on cities of care in Latin America

Mercosur Cities Network launches a new campaign, “Caring Cities“, to raise awareness on care in cities in Latin America to encourage local governments in the region to join the “Cities commitment to care”. Throughout November and December 2025, the Mercosur Cities Network will share campaign posts on this topic. Follow along to learn more about how local governments can help create a caring society.

Background

The growing demand for care in Latin America presents a new challenge to local governments. Care services often falls on families, especially women, who spend three times as much time on these tasks as men and frequently face double- or triple-workdays.

Building a care society presents both opportunities and challenges to improve citizens’ quality of life, create jobs, and foster development.

Cities’ commitment to care

The Mercosur Cities Network invites member cities and associated states and provinces to join the “Compromiso de las ciudades con los cuidados (Cities’ commitment to care)”, which recognizes the vital role of local governments in providing care, strengthening social protection, and developing cross-disciplinary social-health strategies. Participating cities will receive training, technical talks, and other events, along with specific content on the topic.
