The city of Torino, in partnership with the University of Torino (UNITO), has created First Life, a local civic social network that aims to enhance citizen involvement in public matters, allowing community members to co-design urban areas. UNITO also designed Commonshood, a blockchain wallet app that promotes transparency and community engagement.
The city of Montevideo has pioneered citizen engagement with its platform Montevideo Participa, which aims to encourage residents to debate local issues, vote on budget proposals, and collaborate on public space ideas. Moreover, this platform is part of a bigger initiative, Montevideo Lab (MVDLab), a citizen innovation lab established in 2016, fostering collaboration between the city and residents to tackle urban challenges.
