Event description
Despite increasing recognition of the role of cities and regions in achieving global development goals, local and regional governments continue to face significant challenges in accessing the finance required to implement sustainable development plans. This session will explore how partnerships between local government networks and Project Preparation Facilities (PPFs) are helping to close the urban financing gap.
The event will feature a dynamic mix of expert panel discussions, case study presentations, and interactive Q&A sessions. It will highlight real-world projects—from Sub-Saharan Africa to Latin America—that have advanced through collaborative efforts between local governments, city networks, and financing partners.
Key objectives include:
- Showcasing effective collaboration between city networks and PPFs
- Exploring key challenges in project preparation at the local level
- Advancing discussions on the global financial architecture reform
- Present practical case studies from the Global South
- Launch of the publication “Empowering Cities and Financing Climate Resilient Urban Futures” on how ICLEI and the Global Compact of Mayros are accelerating the implementation of the gap fund.
Organisers
The event is co-organised by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, FMDV – Global Fund For Cities Development, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the Climate Policy Initiative, the City Climate Finance Gap Fund, the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance, the C40 Cities Finance Facility, and the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa.
