The 1st edition of the Finance Your Cities Innovation Awards (FYC), organized by the Global Fund for Cities Development (FMDV) is looking for financial innovations that foster sustainable and resilient urban transformations. These awards celebrate the diverse categories of partners involved in the urban financing value chain, particularly those advancing climate adaptation financing.
Recognizing sustainable urban transitions
The FYC Innovation Awards identifies, connects, and promotes financial innovations that support the sustainable, equitable, and resilient transformation of cities and regions. With a global audience, this first edition of the Finance Your Cities Innovation Awards recognizes winners in 4 categories:
- Local and Regional Governments and their utilities
- Ministries and National Public Agencies, and utilities
- Public Development Banks
- A jury special Grand Prix, emphasizing the urgent need for financing adaptation

Meet the judges
A panel of judges, known for their expertise and dedication to financial innovation in subnational climate action, will bring knowledge and a keen eye for identifying and recognizing financial innovations that can drive sustainable urban transitions. The jury includes:
- Akoa Philippe, General Director of FEICOM
- Hoeflich Sara, Director of Area of Learning at UCLG
- Junius Anne, Deputy Director of Europe & International Action at the French Ministry of Ecological Transition
- Masset Philippe, Director of Europe & International at ADEME
- Nasse-Bridier Emmanuelle, senior expert in private financing
- Samuels Barbara, Senior Expert at FMDV
The award is particularly interested in identifying financial innovations, including climate taxation for subnational action, dedicated market-rate or concessional loans, specific guarantees, credit enhancement, and risk mitigation processes. Other focus areas include subnational and local project green bonds, subnational project preparation facilities, revolving funds, refinancing or repayment schemes, subnational carbon finance, and pooling mechanisms for small projects.
By recognizing these efforts, the FYC Innovation Awards 2024 will inspire and scale-up successful financial models that can contribute to global climate action, building more sustainable urban areas worldwide.
