PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Rural villages across Karakalpakstan have long faced irregular water supply and outdated infrastructure, with direct consequences for public health and farm productivity. Because the central electricity grid is unreliable in many of these communities, the Council of Ministers turned to solar power instead of conventional pumping. The project installed solar-powered pumps linked to storage tanks in target villages and paired this infrastructure with community management: local water committees were trained to run daily distribution, supported by a monitoring system that tracks water quality and flags maintenance needs before breakdowns occur. This combination of renewable energy and community-led management makes the model viable in remote areas.
