KONYA
is transforming its agricultural heritage into a globally relevant, publicly driven food system model to address climate instability, water scarcity, and fragmented agricultural systems. Led by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the project integrates food security, waste reduction, and economic development across the entire agri-food chain.
Key actions include drought-resilient crops, organic farming, modern irrigation, and water-efficient systems, alongside support for farmers through training and market access. The municipality operates 45 Fenni Fırın bakeries, Pelen food distribution, Kafem/Fera restaurants, and municipal enterprises like KONBELTAŞ and Lavonya to retain local value. Women and vulnerable groups gain access to markets and affordable food.
Konya also modernizes irrigation (closed systems, water storage) and promotes smart agriculture, public innovation, and multilevel coordination. Internationally, it leads Agricities for agricultural diplomacy and knowledge exchange.
