Mexico City’s Ciudad Solar program is a comprehensive initiative on renewable energy transition and provides training in solar technologies such as photovoltaic systems and solar water heating. It helps build a qualified workforce to enable solar energy expansion to residential and commercial areas and contributes to reduce fossil fuel dependence. The program also supports small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt solar solutions, sets solar technology standards, and implements large-scale projects like installing photovoltaic systems in government buildings, contributing to the city’s sustainability goals.
In Northampton city, Moulton College, in partnership with GenCarbon Ltd, has introduced a specialized course in solar-powered technologies tailored to the local community — an initiative to address the skill gap in the renewable energy sector and enhance employment prospects. The course is conducted in the local job center with a community-focused approach where residents learn how to use, install, and maintain solar panel technologies, with a teaching method that can be replicated in other regions alike. This program is supported by the sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) and the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions.
