MASAKA CITY JOURNEY TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Masaka City, in Central Uganda, is making significant strides in becoming a clean and sustainable city under the leadership of Mayor Florence Namayanja. With her unwavering commitment to environmental protection and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Mayor is spearheading efforts to ensure that Masaka makes its mark in the realization of Agenda 2030.

Her area of focus is environmental protection which encompasses a number of SDGs including SDG 13 on Climate Action, SDG 14 on Life Below Water and SDG 15 on Life on Land, which all call for mitigating environmental degradation, conserving biodiversity, and fostering sustainability of natural resources. Also linked to these is SDG 17 which promotes partnerships to achieve all SDGs. The mayor is leading this drive through several initiatives in waste management, plastic waste reduction, noise pollution control, and wetland conservation.
