NORWEGIAN NATURE IS FOR EVERYONE

A NEW BOOKLET ABOUT UNIVERSAL DESIGN AND OUTDOOR RECREATION.

Norway is a natural playground and a world-class destination for adventurous travelers. Hiking, biking, and paddling are some of the activities that attract adventurers. Outdoor recreation is deeply rooted in the Norwegian identity and cultural heritage, but Norway’s deep valleys, high mountain peaks, and rugged coastline are not accessible to all.

That is something many people are eager to do something about Universal design is about creating good, inclusive communities where everyone can participate. KS the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities, also the organization for all local governments in Norway has published a new booklet available in Norwegian language and English about Universal Design and Outdoor Recreation. All of the country’s 356 municipalities and 11 county councils are members, as well as about 500 municipal, inter-municipal and county council undertakings.

The booklet was inspired by the members of KS Network for Universal Design, established in 2013. The goal is to contribute to an inclusive society by sharing best practices and removing barriers. The goal is to give everyone better access to outdoor spaces, meeting places and buildings.
