Pasig’s rapid economic growth
has brought a series of negative urban consequences, including solid waste management problems, flooding, pollution, health issues, and environmental degradation. Recognizing this, the city government launched the Pasig Green City Program in 2007. The program aims to provide residents with clean air, potable water, and a healthy environment, characterized by lush green spaces and urban forests, and inhabited by environmentally conscious people. Over the years, environmental ordinances and strict enforcement have been developed, requiring all businesses to obtain an environmental permit and install anti-pollution devices. Volunteer Green Police units have been formed from the city’s 30 different neighborhoods (called barangays). The use of AI now allows for real-time monitoring of the cleanliness of the Pasig River.
