UN-Habitat invites cities worldwide to join the Quality of Life Initiative

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) invites cities to join the Quality of Life Initiative, sponsored by the Saudi Arabia Quality of Life Program. The initiative is a global effort to enhance urban well-being through data-driven measurement, monitoring and insights.

Interested cities and organizations can submit an Expression of Interest by 4 June 2025 at: https://www.qolimpact.com/register

The initiative has developed a new Quality of Life Index, which was piloted by 10 cities and expanded to over 50 cities from 30 countries. Now, the goal is to formally partner with 100 local governments by the end of 2025.

The index integrates innovative data sources — like satellite imagery, mobile data, and resident feedback — to provide cities with actionable insights. Participating cities also benefit from technical assistance, access to a global network of peers, and the opportunity to receive UN-Habitat sponsorship for data collection.

By adopting the Quality of Life Index, cities gain a tool to measure and improve well-being in their communities through metrics that respond to global challenges as well as local contextual needs.
