The City of San Salvador

is implementing a climate change adaptation strategy based on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) integrated into the municipal development plan. The initiative strengthens environmental governance and climate diagnostics, aligning green and gray infrastructure through updated municipal ordinances. Key measures include infiltration trenches, living barriers, absorption wells in city parks, and rain gardens to reduce the risks of flooding and landslides. The plan also promotes ecosystem restoration through the reforestation of hills. Actions are complemented by river and stream clean-up campaigns and community awareness on integrated waste management, engaging residents, neighborhoods, and businesses.
