The 2025 Report shows how UNDP supports local and regional governments in promoting the 2030 Agenda, strengthening local capacity, generating actionable insights, and elevating local voices in international policy discussions.

What the 2025 Report covers
The report highlights SDG Local Action as a platform for collective learning, innovation, and advocacy, centered on four key pillars.
- Supporting local implementation of the SDGs
Throughout the year, UNDP SDG Local Action supported cities and regions in creating, implementing, and scaling innovative solutions to local problems. This included offering direct assistance to municipal projects, capacity-building programs, and tailored support to cities participating in global initiatives such as the Mayors Challenge.
- Learning and knowledge generation
The learning programs continued to expand, allowing cities to exchange knowledge via webinars, working groups, and guidelines. These initiatives supported local governments in strengthening areas including local finance, data visualization, inclusive neighborhoods, and climate resilience.
- Advocacy and global engagement
In 2025, SDG Local Action increased the participation of local governments in UN international initiatives. This involved engagement in key platforms such as the High-Level Political Forum, the Commission on the Status of Women, the Open Government Partnership Summit, and the Financing for Development process. Through their involvement, local governments contributed practical insights and evidence, bolstering the role of cities as vital partners in sustainable development.
- Communication, data visualization, and storytelling
The project continued to invest in communication tools to improve the visibility, measurability, and shareability of local actions. By utilizing stories, videos, infographics, data visualizations, and city webpages, SDG Local Action translated complex data into clear insights that support decision-making, promote accountability, and strengthen public trust.
Sharing cumulative impact since 2021
Alongside the 2025 Report, we are also releasing a brochure that presents cumulative results since 2021, illustrating the growth and scope of SDG Local Action over time. The brochure emphasizes key statistics related to institutional partnerships, learning activities, knowledge products, communication reach, and the expanding global community of local governments involved in the initiative.
