Mr. Achim Steiner, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and the UNDP Administrator delivered an opening speech at the VI Local and Regional Governments Forum that took place during the 2023 High Level Political Forum in New York on 12th July 2023.
“The goals are not just statements of an idealized outcome that is somebody else’s responsibility. They are, as our former Secretary General once called it, a declaration of interdependence whether it is between nations between cities and rural areas between citizens and the state. It is in many ways the campus we need to get out of this permanent crisis we seem to have found ourselves in and to all of you who lead this effort across the world and are here in this room today. I pray tribute to you and I thank you very much“.
