WEBINAR: USING DATA PLATFORMS FOR LOCAL DECISION-MAKING

UNDP has launched a new learning series to share SDG solutions proposed by local governments to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

Conducted through webinars and online peer exchange, this new series will touch on a broad range of topics that bring together different SDGs to life in the city.

Our third event took place on the 5th of October 2023 between Prague, Czech Republic and Amman, Jordan on the topic ‘ How to use data platforms for better local decision making’.

Cities have been experimenting with data platforms for a while now without the use of technology. However, since technology is evolving quickly, local governments are also adapting quickly to new tools and possibilities to improve service delivery. Amman and Prague are among other cities using technology to improve their response capacity for future emergencies and prioritize their investments to help their most vulnerable communities.
During the COVID-19 crisis, the Great Amman Municipality analyzed what were its gaps in the delivery of key services to improve its response capacity for future emergencies and prioritize its investment to help its most vulnerable communities. Amman will be presenting the project “Amman is Listening” which builds on the experience of “reachability maps” generated during the pandemic to deliver food and healthcare. As part of UNDP’s Local Solution series, the city is launching an interactive, open-data platform for residents to elevate concerns and inform the deployment of critical city services in real time.

Prague presented the Prague Data Platform called “Golemio” https://golemio.cz/english an open-source solution providing business intelligence to decision-makers as well as to other city-owned companies on a B2B model of collaboration with performance-based SLAs which has been in operation since 2017. The platform offers primarily 3 main functions:

1. Data-based services (analytics, interpretation, etc.).

2. Municipal data consultancy services,

3. It serves as a major open data-building community.
