WEBINAR: USING DRONES TO MAP CITIES

Drones have become a revolutionary technology for urban management, offering new possibilities for city planning and environmental monitoring. They enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and provide innovative ways to manage urban environments through mapping, infrastructure inspection, emergency response, and environmental surveys.

This UNDP SDG Local Action webinar will explore the use of drones in cities, featuring the experiences of Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Dublin, Ireland. Freetown uses drones to map reforested areas and certify carbon credits, while Dublin employs drones for public service delivery and urban planning.

Facing severe deforestation, Freetown launched the #FreetownTheTreeTown initiative to plant and digitally track trees. Drones are now being used for geospatial surveys to monitor and ensure the success of reforestation efforts.

Dublin’s Drone and Urban Air Mobility Strategy aims to revolutionize public services through drone technology. The strategy focuses on enhancing emergency response, infrastructure maintenance, environmental monitoring, and urban planning.

Drawing on the experiences and lessons learned from these two cities, this webinar will provide a platform to explore the transformative potential of drones in urban management. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the practical applications and benefits of drone technology in enhancing city services.
